On June 6, 2023, the City and County of San Francisco Board of Supervisors appointed Shay to serve in Seat 14 on the San Francisco Cannabis Oversight Committee. Per the San Francisco Administrative Code, Seat 14 must be held by a person with demonstrated subject matter expertise in California’s cannabis laws and regulations. The purpose of the Cannabis Oversight Committee is to provide guidance and recommendations to the Board of Supervisors on amendments to local laws and regulations, including those governing the Equity Program, to advance racial equity and facilitate socially responsible growth of this new industry by creating living wage jobs and economic opportunities consistent with the San Francisco commercial cannabis laws and regulations.
